Get Our Country’s Fiscal House in Order
The same irresponsible financial policies that got Wall Street into trouble are now repeating themselves in Washington— only this time on an even bigger scale. As early as 2004, Peter Schiff started warning about the looming financial crisis. His book, Crash Proof, published in Feb 2007, outlined how monetary and regulatory policies distorted market forces, resulting in risky mortgages that would lead to a severe financial crisis. His predictions came true in 2008!
Peter remains a strong opponent of the government’s $700 billion Wall Street bailout package. As Connecticut’s next Senator, he will keep Washington’s spending addiction in check. Peter believes that we cannot borrow and spend our way to economic prosperity. Most Connecticut families are making cutbacks during this recession, and Washington needs to match their sacrifice.

Impose a Hard Cap on the National Debt to Control Government Spending
End All Pork Barrel Spending & Congressional Earmarks
Oppose Obama’s “Stimulus Package” that Puts America Deeper in Debt
End Government’s Assault on Jobs & Stop Outsourcing the American Dream
Connecticut’s unemployment rate is rising fast. But, don’t believe any politician who tells you that he or she can create jobs. Government is the least efficient and most expensive means of job creation. President Obama’s stimulus package cost taxpayers $160,000 for every job it created. That’s an ineffective way to put the country back to work, especially when taxpayers ultimately pay the bill. Obama’s stimulus plan probably destroyed more jobs than it created. We need government to get out of the way and allow small businesses to create jobs. Small businesses aren’t asking for a bailout; they just need the freedom to grow and prosper.

Get Our Government Back to Basics
Congress can’t handle the problems currently in front of them. Yet, that hasn’t stopped President Obama and the Democrats from plotting new expansions into every aspect of our daily lives. All the while, our roads are deteriorating. School facilities are out-of-date. And public infrastructure is on the verge of collapse. The government’s priorities are backwards.

Health Care: Keep Government Out of Personal Medical Decisions
The government can’t handle the problems that they currently have on their plate, and they want to expand their influence to our medical decisions. Not only is President Obama’s socialized medicine a scary intrusion into our personal lives, it’s also too expensive. The national debt is approaching $14,000,000,000,000 while our national deficit is $1,420,000,000,000. We can’t saddle future generations with another trillion dollars of debt to pay for Obama-care. It’s as unwise as it is irresponsible.
Allow individuals to opt out of employer provided heath insurance receiving the cost as tax free wages instead. They can then use the extra tax-free income to buy the health insurance they want, including high deductible plans, keeping the tax-free savings for themselves. By separating health insurance from employment, individuals will no longer have to worry about pre-existing conditions should they lose their jobs. This massive tax cut for working Americans will not add a penny to the deficit, as the loss of revenue is to insurance companies not the treasury.
End federal mandates that require insurance companies to provide coverage that many Americans do not want. Such mandates drive up premiums and deny individuals the ability to choose less expensive plans that better suit their needs.

States Rights
Our Founding Fathers established our Republic with a federal system, with limited powers granted to the federal government.
Let's return to the ideas that our country was founded on to preserve state sovereignty and end the take over of state powers not enumerated in the Constitution.
The Second Amendment
The right of citizens to bear arms should not be infringed upon. A well-armed citizenry is necessary for the preservation of liberty. Gun control laws also disarm law-abiding citizens leaving them defenseless against criminals.
Education
We should eliminate the U.S. Department of Education and return this vital function to state and local governments where it belongs. With local control, federal funds would be returned to states where they would be utilized far more effectively. We need to bring competition back to higher education, allow market forces to drive cost down and quality up. As tuition rises our children suffer, saddled with huge debts and little job prospects.I want our kids to graduate well educated and DEBT-FREE
Energy
We need to end our dependence on foreign oil.The U.S. Department of Energy should be eliminated as it wastes money and produces no energy.Instead, we should empower the private sector to produce the energy our nation needs.
Let's allow losses on passive investments to be deducted from ordinary income. This will immediately free up investment capital to fund the oil and gas drilling and exploration we badly need.
National Defense & Terrorism
We should make national defense the federal government's top priority by ending its involvement in other areas not authorized by the Constitution. Let's truly have a policy of national defense, not national offense.
We should end the concept of nation building and close unneeded foreign military bases that drain resources from more important uses.
Immigration
We should strengthen our borders to crack down on illegal immigration and streamline the process to make legal immigration more accessible. Immigrants must respect our laws and not be given amnesty.
The Federal Reserve
Reform the Federal Reserve so that it no longer enables deficit spending, inflates asset bubbles, or creates inflation. Its original independence must be restored, including strict limits on the types of securities it can buy. Interest rates should be set by the market, not the Federal Reserve. The Fed’s main responsibility should be providing our nation with a sound currency, backed by quality commercial paper and gold.
Social Issues
Powers not delegated to the federal government by the U.S. Constitution are reserved to the states.
The regulation of social issues, such as abortion and marriage, fall within this category.
Personal preferences aside, U.S. Senators must not interfere with a state's rights to self-govern.
Concerned citizens must look to their respective state legislators and state constitutions regarding their state's authority to regulate in these areas.
The federal government must not interfere with or promote, through funding or any other means, that which is outside its enumerated powers.
As U.S. Senator, I will only vote to confirm federal judges who demonstrate an understanding of this principle.
